Teresa Conway, DVM

Pixie and Hobo

Stinky

Dr. Teresa Conway likes to consider herself a native Hawaiian. She was born on the beautiful island of Oahu while her parents were stationed there. Unfortunately the Air Force sent the family back to the mainland shortly thereafter. She actually grew up in Alabama, Virginia, Texas, upstate New York, and Massachusetts. In 1987 she was the valedictorian at Westford Academy. From there, she went to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst as an Animal Science major. She graduated summa cum laude and a Commonwealth Scholar in 1991. In 1995 she obtained her DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University.

While at Cornell University, Teresa dabbled with the idea of being a mixed (both large and small) animal practitioner.  She was on the Colic Crew, the Equine Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as well as a member of the feline club (felis medicus) and co-founder of the canine club.  Winters in upstate New York convinced her that working indoors with small animals was the way to go. After graduation, Dr. Conway worked for two years in a suburb of Buffalo, NY, and one year in Matawan, NJ, before joining the team at Brick Town Veterinary Hospital in 1998.  Her veterinary interests include ultrasound (both abdominal and echocardiograms), dermatology, behavior, and the occasional pocket pet/exotic. She also appeared in the video “Dr. Kellon’s Guide to First Aid for Horses”, has peer reviewed the second edition of the book by the same title, and periodically teaches introductory biology classes at Monmouth University. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association, the Jersey Shore Veterinary Medical Association, and the Cornell Feline Health Center.

When she’s away from work, Teresa enjoys spending time with her husband (Glen), her two Siamese cats (Pixie and Hobo), and her third-hand Pug (Stinky Winston). Since the recent purchase of their first house, she is spending a lot of time making improvements inside and working on the gardens outside.  Other interests and hobbies include reading, cooking, soccer, yoga and, of course, visiting friends and family scattered all over the United States.

Adam Christman, DVM

Dr. Christman is a New Jersey native. He grew up in Bricktown and was actually our veterinary technician here at BTVH while he was at Bricktown High School. Dr. Christman graduated with a B.S. degree in Animal Science and a minor in Spanish from Cook College, Rutgers University in 2000. He received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004.

Dr. Christman is an active member in the NJ Veterinary Medical Association, the AVMA, AAHA, the American Veterinary Holistic Association and the NJ House Rabbit Society. His special interests include small animal internal medicine, dentistry, nutrition and oncology. He started practicing in Monmouth County and now has returned to his roots bringing with him over 125 hours of continuing education. In 2004 Dr Christman was awarded the Pfizer Award for Excellence in Small Animal Internal Medicine as well as the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine Award for Excellence in Bedside Manner & the Human Animal Bond. He was also awarded the Nestle Purina Award for Outstanding Efforts in Small Animal Clinical Nutrition.

Dr. Christman is an Active member in our community working with the Monouth County SPCA Spay/Neuter Clinic, Jersey Shore Animal Shelter and Jersey Shore Animal Emergency Hospital. He also volunteers his time at the Seabrook Retirement Village in Tinton Falls.

He is the proud owner of an adorable Beagle named Charlie pictured above.

Mary Lou Brongo, DVM

Dr. Brongo originally comes from upstate New York. Having been in New Jersey for a number of years, she got her BS degree in Animal Science from Rutgers University, Cook College, where she did some interesting thesis work with a rare species of pigs at the Bronx Zoo. After Cook she headed west to Oklahoma State University where she earned her DVM.

At OSU she concentrated on small animal internal medicine and surgery and was involved in numerous outreach programs. She received awards for promoting the human animal bond, excellence in the field of small animal nutrition, and representing her class and school to the public at large. For 3 years she was a class representative, acting as liaison between faculty and students. After earning her DVM she returned to New Jersey with her large family of animals acquired as a student – 5 dogs and 5 cats. She practiced for several years in North Jersey before coming to BTVH recently. When not practicing medicine she enjoys biking, hiking, going into New York City to the theatre, and relaxing with her family, including several dogs and cats, and spending time with friends.

David Weiss, RPh DVM

Dr. Weiss is the most recent addition to Brick Town Veterinary Hospital. His journey to becoming a veterinarian is a unique one. He received his pharmacy degree in 1987 from Rutgers College of Pharmacy then after working 15 years as a human pharmacist, Dave decided to persue his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in the Caribbean. Then he went on to the University of Minnesota where he completed an additional year of clinical training. His medical interests include canine and feline medicine/surgery, ophthalmology and avian medicine. It is his goal to also one day be a certified veterinary accupuncturist.

While in veterinary school on the Island of St. Kitts, Dave rescued a Coconut Retriever. Early in this dogs life, she lived on the streets before being scooped up to be an anesthesia dog at the University for students to practice on. After developing seizures, she was scheduled to be euthanized but Dave could not let that happen. She is just the sweetest dog and he decided to bring her  back home to the United States.

Dave has 2 teenage children, Jake and Danielle. When not seeing patients at the clinic, Dave enjoys his free time with his family, learning to play guitar, fishing and his new passion is bird watching especially raptors. He was first introduced to this species at the esteemed Minnesota Raptor Center, where he rehabilitated birds such as eagles, hawks, falcons, owls and many others.
