Richard
Pearson, MS VMD
Dr. Pearson founded Brick Town Veterinary Hospital in 1973. His education
includes a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Science from Penn State
University. He then received his Veterinary Medical Doctorate from the
University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Peasron enjoys spending his free time gardening
and travelling.
David
Buist, VMD
Dr. Buist started with Brick Town Veterinary Hospital in 1984, after completing
his veterinary training at the University of Pennsylvania. His specialties
include orthopedic surgery, reproduction, and pediatrics.
He is married to his wife of 31 years, Mary Beth, who teaches school in Lacey
Township. Together they have three children: Rebecca, David, and Ryan. Their
family pets over the years have included various dogs, canaries, rabbits,
hamsters, and for a brief period the odd turtle or snake. When not working, Dr.
Buist enjoys fishing, tying flies, reading, cooking, gardening and the beach.
Teresa
Conway, DVM
Dr. Conway likes to consider herself a native Hawaiian. She was born on the
beautiful island of Oahu while her parents were stationed there. Unfortunately
the Air Force sent the family back to the mainland shortly thereafter. She grew
up in Alabama, Virginia, Texas, upstate New York, and Massachusetts. In 1987 she
was the valedictorian at Westford Academy. From there, she went to the
University of Massachusetts at Amherst as an Animal Science major. She graduated
summa cum laude and a Commonwealth Scholar in 1991. In 1995 she obtained her DVM
from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University.
While at Cornell University, Teresa dabbled with the idea of being a mixed (both
large and small) animal practitioner. She was on the Colic Crew, the Equine
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as well as a member of the feline club (felis
medicus) and co-founder of the canine club. Winters in upstate New York
convinced her that working indoors with small animals was the way to go. After
graduation, Dr. Conway worked for two years in a suburb of Buffalo, NY, and one
year in Matawan, NJ, before joining the team at Brick Town Veterinary Hospital
in 1998. Her veterinary interests include ultrasound (both abdominal and
echocardiograms), dermatology, behavior, and the occasional pocket
pet/exotic. She also appeared in the video “Dr. Kellon’s Guide to First Aid for
Horses”, has peer reviewed the second edition of the book by the same title, and
periodically teaches introductory biology classes at Monmouth University. She is
a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New Jersey
Veterinary Medical Association, the Jersey Shore Veterinary Medical Association,
and the Cornell Feline Health Center.
When she’s away from work, Teresa enjoys spending time with her husband, Glen,
her two Siamese cats, Pixie and Hobo, and her third-hand Pug, Stinky
Winston. Since the recent purchase of their first house, she is spending a lot
of time making improvements inside and working on the gardens outside. Her
other interests and hobbies include reading, cooking, soccer, yoga and, of
course, visiting friends and family scattered all over the United States.
Adam
Christman, DVM
Dr. Christman's attitude and enthusiasm make him a pleasure to work with. He is
a New Jersey native, having grown up in Brick, and was a technician here at BTVH
while attending Brick Town High School. He graduated with a BS degree in Animal
Science and a minor in Spanish from Cook College, Rutgers University in 2000. He
received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University College
of Veterinary Medicine in 2004.
Dr. Christman is an active member in the NJ Veterinary Medical Association, the
AVMA, & SPCA. His special interests include small animal internal medicine,
dentistry, nutrition and oncology. In 2004, he was awarded the Pfizer Award for
Excellence in Small Animal Internal Medicine as well as the Iowa State
University College of Veterinary Medicine Award for Excellence in Bedside Manner
& the Human Animal Bond. He was also awarded the Nestle Purina Award for
Outstanding Efforts in Small Animal Clinical Nutrition.
Dr. Christman is an active member in our community working with Jersey Shore
Animal Shelter and Jersey Shore Animal Emergency Hospital. He also volunteers
his time at the Seabrook Retirement Village in Tinton Falls. He has given many
lectures throughout the country for Pfizer Animal Health discussing the
importance of obesity in pets. He is featured on Pifzer Animal Health's DVD,
"Slentrol--A Client's Testimonial" and was also on NJN's "The Pet Stop" in 2008
discussing the significance of canine obesity. He enjoys talking to local
elementary and high school students about the veterinary profession.
Dr. Christman is the proud owner of an adorable beagle named Charlie, a
paralyzed long-haired Dachshund named Cosmo, and a recently-adopted daschund
from JSAC named Chelsea. He enjoys spending quality time with his partner at the
boardwalk, amusement parks, New York City and anything involving his dogs. He is
the proud uncle and godfather to a nephew, Gavin Thomas Christman.
MaryLou
Brongo, DVM
Dr. Brongo is originally from upstate New York. Having been in New Jersey for a
number of years, she got her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from
Rutgers University, Cook College, where she did some interesting thesis work
with a rare species of pigs at the Bronx Zoo. After Cook, she headed west to
Oklahoma State University where she earned her DVM.
At OSU she concentrated on small animal internal medicine and surgery and was
involved in numerous outreach programs. She received awards for promoting the
human animal bond, excellence in the field of small animal nutrition, and
representing her class and school to the public at large. For three years she
was a class representative, acting as liaison between faculty and students.
After earning her DVM she returned to New Jersey with her large family of
animals acquired as a student: five dogs and five cats (she is pictured left
with Lulu, her shih tzu). She practiced for several years in North Jersey before
coming to BTVH. When not practicing medicine she enjoys biking, hiking, going to
New York City theatre, relaxing with her family, and spending time with friends.
David
Weiss, RPh DVM
Dr. Weiss is the most recent
addition to Brick Town Veterinary Hospital. His journey to becoming a
veterinarian is a unique one. He received his pharmacy degree in 1987 from
Rutgers College of Pharmacy. Then after working for fifteen years as a human
pharmacist, Dave decided to persue his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He
attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in the Caribbean. Then he
went on to the University of Minnesota where he completed an additional year of
clinical training. His medical interests include canine and feline medicine and
surgery, ophthalmology and avian medicine. It is his goal to also one day be a
certified veterinary accupuncturist.
His pets include a rescued coconut retriever from the Island of St. Kitts, who
was scheduled to be euthanized after developing seizures. Sweet P (pictured
left) now enjoys a happy life in the US. Dr. Weiss also owns a 110 lb. black
Great Dane named Sadie that he raised from puppyhood.
Dr. Weiss has two teenage children, Jake and Danielle. When not seeing patients
at the clinic, Dave enjoys his free time with his family, learning to play
guitar, fishing, and bird watching.
